This record is an experiment in messing around with music at its molecular level: ignoring rules whenever possible and coming up with songs that obey their own whims. It’s usually fast, short and barely-contained, with weird rhythms knocking up against big melodies, tripping over not-quite-but-almost over-the-top guitar work. Bring Back The Guns twists its primal screams into detailed sculpture and invites you to knock over the ropes on your way to touch the art.
Influences? They’re present, but never aped.
The Pixies are certainly there in the big guitar melodies, and there’s
some Les Savy Fav-ish dance urgency. Some of the
stranger time signatures have that Dismemberment Plan
feel, maybe. But ultimately,BBTG sounds like BBTG and
not much like anything else.
